Write to your MP about bees

We want the Government to ban neonicotinoids to help ensure the health and future of our honeybees. If you would like to take further action to assist our campaign, we would like to invite you to write to your local MP, asking them to raise their concerns with Hilary Benn, Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

If you agree with us, then please include some of the following points in your letter:

  • Countries such as France, Germany and Italy have enough good evidence to ban or suspend the use of certain neonicotinoid pesticides, why can’t the UK?
  • What independent research (not pesticide industry data, which is often used) is Defra doing on the issue of the impacts of neonicotinoids on bee health? And how soon can that research be carried out?
  • How much of the recently announced £10 million research budget will be put towards addressing this issue?
  • Which is the bigger priority for the government – pesticide industry profits, or UK honeybees?

To contact your local MP you need to know their name – use the link on the right if you don't know who yours is. You can then email them by using their name in the following way: firstnamesurname@parliament.uk – for example gordonbrown@parliament.uk

If you prefer you can send a letter to:

‘Local MP’s name’ MP (ie Gordon Brown MP)
House of Commons
London
SW1A 0AA

When you write please send a copy of your letter to Emma Hockridge at the Soil Association. Email bees@soilassociation.org or write to Emma Hockridge, Soil Association, South Plaza, Marlborough Street, Bristol, BS1 3NX
