We offer a contributory pension scheme which you can join after three months. Our pension plan focuses on Sustainable Responsible Investment and we encourage savings to be made in Sustainable Future funds.
We encourage everyone in the Soil Association to really live our values in a positive and practical way, and in the spirit of volunteerism we would like to give you the opportunity, within work time, to take part in voluntary activities connected to our charitable objectives, such as environmental or community food initiatives.
You can take up to two volunteer days per year (or the pro rata equivalent for part time workers), and they can used as full days or half days.
Flexible working arrangements
We are committed to flexible working practices where possible. We are supportive of part time working and job sharing. We offer a Childcare Voucher Scheme where employees with parental responsibilities can receive up to £243 per month in childcare vouchers, free of tax and national insurance.
If you work for us for three years you can request a one month unpaid sabbatical. If you work for us for five years you can request a three month unpaid sabbatical.
You will be eligible for sick pay above statutory entitlements.
Training and development
We believe in planning for your development by matching, as far as possible, your needs with our organisational objectives and values. We are keen to offer appropriate training that will either prepare you for, or support you with, the demands of your job and also enable you to fulfil your full potential within your role.
We value our relationship with UNITE, our recognised union, who offer advice on legal matters and workforce representation.
Our Staff Forum provides a platform for representatives of staff from across the organisation to debate issues that affect them and their working lives.
Employee led activities
We have many connections with local and organic farmers and growers who provide us with opportunities to purchase their produce. Meat and veggie box schemes are available to join, and we support employee-led schemes which enable organic and locally produced food to be delivered to you at work.
We provide free organic tea and coffee and have a tuck shop where you can buy organic snacks. We encourage people to eat together at least once a week and organise a 'Salad Tuesday' in the Summer and a 'Soup Tuesday' in the Winter.
We support employee-led activities such as weekly yoga classes.
Cycle to Work scheme
Our Cycle to Work scheme is part of the Government's Green Transport Plan, promoting healthier journeys to work and reducing environmental pollution. You can purchase a bike and accessories tax free to use, at least in part, for journeys between your home and work.
We have links with local and organic suppliers who offer discounts on their products. These include Go Organic, Essential Trading and Neal's Yard.
