Chief Operating Officer
Soil Association
Bristol
c. £65,000
The Soil Association is the UK’s leading membership charity campaigning for healthy, humane and sustainable food. We are working to pioneer new food and farming solutions, make good food available to everyone and enable practical change on the ground. We are at an important moment in our 67 year history. Over the last few years, we have refreshed our strategic approach, stabilised our finances, and set out ambitious goals to 2020. As our ability to impact on a much wider scale grows, we need a special person to join a great team, bringing the skills and experience we need to underpin our vision with sound organisational management.
In this new role of Chief Operating Officer, you will provide direct management to the corporate and business support functions that enable us to operate effectively. However, whilst you will need to be competent in these business areas, that’s only the beginning of your talents and of what we hope you’ll achieve. We need you to help us spot and assess opportunities, think creatively as well as rationally, balance boldness and caution. You will enjoy planning and negotiating and building strong relationships with partners, and revel in managing people and major projects. You will be inspired and motivated by our aims and potential, and enthused by working with a pioneering team.
To succeed, you’ll need strong business and commercial acumen together with skills in project, people, financial and systems management. You’ll be supported by a strong group of direct reports in the functional areas of HR, IT and Finance, creating the space you’ll need to bring a more strategic ‘business partner’ approach to our leadership team. In particular, you’ll bring the tools and experience necessary to turn exciting, creative ideas into reality, underpinned by good business discipline.
In return, we offer you the opportunity to work in a diverse and challenging role within a vibrant organisation committed to addressing some of the most fundamental issues affecting our health, wellbeing and environment.
