British Organic Beef – Success and Stability in a Changing World
A Soil Association conference in partnership with Eastbrook Farm, Graig Farm producers, and the Organic Livestock Marketing Co-operative (OLMC).
Following the success of the National Organic Beef conference (see press release below), the Red Meat Industry Forum is offering a free copy of the latest Organic Farm Management Handbook 2007 (worth £16.50) to the first 200 organic beef and sheep farmers to return a Snapshot benchmarking questionnaire.
"Very little benchmarking is being done on organic farms at present," said Phil Stocker, head of food and farming. "Yet there are huge benefits in farmers understanding their costs and being able to compare outputs and inputs with groups of similar businesses."
"We are working with the Red Meat Industry Forum (RMIF) to help organic beef and sheep producers to get involved with benchmarking and to ensure that when they do there is a meaningful set of comparative organic data. The RMIF have developed a very simple benchmarking tool called 'Snapshot' to enable more farmers to reap the benefits of benchmarking.
"Completing the Snapshot questionnaire should take you no more than five minutes. All you need is basic farm performance information – there is no need to consult record books or farm accounts. The information you provide will remain confidential and will enable the RMIF to compile reliable and useful benchmarking statistics for you and everyone in the organic beef and sheep sectors. The RMIF will send you your results, as well as the appropriate EBLEX Action for Profit Fact Sheets."
