Scaling Up local food enterprises
10 February 2012 10:00 - 10 February 2012 15:30
Romero Centre, All Hallows College, Brooklands Avenue, Macclesfield, Cheshire SK11 8LB
The event is aimed at buying groups and Transition food groups.
This Scaling Up event will bring together existing larger scale community food enterprises, including our host Food 4 MACC direct, True Food and Stroudco. A little bit about these three organisations: Food 4 Macc is a voluntary group aiming to have more food produced locally in the Macclesfield area; True Food succesfully supply food via a large shop and multiple mobile markets in Reading and Stroudco is a local food cooperative based in Stroud with all orders placed on line.
There will be input in the day from Unicorn Grocery Manchester and SUMA. We hope to illustrate various larger models, aims, objectives and operational characteristics.
We will also examine the challenges and opportunities for developing these models, innovation, collaboration and co-operation.
There is an increased need for enterprises to offer value for money as the development of sustainable business models becomes more crucial with the squeeze on public sector funding.
We will be asking if there are lessons to be learned from Europe’s Biocoop and GAS which could form the basis of a larger model in UK.
In addition to the event on the 10th February there is the option to go to the ‘pick up’ point for Food 4 Macc Direct on Thursday 9th February at 6pm (this is at The Snow Goose on Sunderland Street, Macclesfield. Please let us know on your form if you would be interested in attending).
Programme for the day.
