Organic Grassland Management Event

09 May 2012 10:00 - 09 May 2012 15:30

Organic Grassland Management

Dr Heather MacCalman - Grassland Specialist and Head of Grassland Development Centre, IBERS, Aberystwyth

With the rising cost of feed, fuel, and fertiliser, there has never been a better time to look at how to manage your grassland better; Whether organic or conventional, making the most of clover to benefit from 'free' nitrogen and good forage protein levels and using grass efficiently can only help the farm bottom line.

The farm walk at Eversfield will include a range of grassland types from recent reseeds to very long term permanent pasture under countryside stewardship and will demonstrate how they are integrated into the system which finishes all the ruminant livestock from grass along.

The day will include the opportunity to hear from the Eversfield Marketing Manager and Farm Manager/Head of Stock to learm more about running a large organic farm and butchery.

Open Farm Sunday

Anna Louise Batchelor: What a glorious weekend the first May bank holiday was. After the long, drawn out winter, a weekend of sunshine and warmth was really welcome. I took the opportunity to visit my local organic farm Waltham Place or their annual spring walk and was treated to the sight of beautiful bluebells due to the late spring.
