Future Growers - apprentice and trainees for Daylesford Market Garden

14 January 2013

WE ARE NO LONGER TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR THESE PLACEMENTS

A two year apprenticeship position in the market garden at Daylesford Organic Farms will be available from the beginning of April 2013. Also we require two trainees for at least 7 months from the beginning of April or May.

The market garden is 20 acres in size, including two acres of soft fruit and six large polytunnels. Our remit is to supply the kitchens and retail outlets of Daylesford Organic with seasonal produce. We grow over 70 different products, using over 200 different varieties, mixed leaf and herbs being a specialty, as well as heritage tomatoes and strawberries in season. Essentially we will grow anything that can succeed in our Cotswold climate.

To keep the six-strong team busy all year we also make cider in the autumn, wreaths in the Christmas run-up and significant plant sales from our propagation area during the spring.

Positions are paid at basic rate with some holiday.

I intend to run interviews the first couple of weeks of February, so if interested please send CV to Jez organicjez@hotmail.com by the end of January 2013.

Pigs...

Emma Heseltine: This week I’m taking my last two pigs to the abattoir. I’m sure it’s going to be just as sad as the last time, but this time I’m hoping they are bigger and so provide more delicious food than the previous one. My mistake last time was not to weigh my pig so this time I’m getting it organised. John and I fetch the lamb weigher over from Wallace Field and get them in the pens. As the pigs have been moved a couple of times now they are quite used to getting in the trailer for a little ride, its not difficult with a bit of a treat (a couple of carrots).
