Organic Awareness Days at Yeo Valley

15 May 2013 09:30 - 15 May 2013 15:30

Yeo Valley, Wills Barn Education Centre, Rhodyate, Blagdon

Our one-day organic induction on Yeo Valley’s organic farm is designed to provide an engaging, informative and enjoyable introduction to organic. The event is relevant and helpful to anyone involved in organic - from buyers, developers, marketers, and technical staff, to members of the communications and press teams.

Experts from the Soil Association and Yeo Valley will share up-to-date knowledge on what sets organic products apart, while an afternoon farm tour will provide delegates with a valuable insight into organic farming in practice.

The day begins at Holt Farms, Wills Barn - the Soil Association will give an introduction to the organisation; briefly covering its history, objectives and current activities. Delegates will also receive a market update, along with current news, trends and key developments.

A brief introduction to Yeo Valley will be given followed by their local and organic lunch, (Yeo Valley are also holder of the gold Food for Life Catering Mark). Delegates will also receive a comprehensive tour of the 500 hectare Soil Association-certified Holt Farm to illustrate organic methods and give valuable insight into a practical, commercial organic farm at work.

Pigs...

Emma Heseltine: This week I’m taking my last two pigs to the abattoir. I’m sure it’s going to be just as sad as the last time, but this time I’m hoping they are bigger and so provide more delicious food than the previous one. My mistake last time was not to weigh my pig so this time I’m getting it organised. John and I fetch the lamb weigher over from Wallace Field and get them in the pens. As the pigs have been moved a couple of times now they are quite used to getting in the trailer for a little ride, its not difficult with a bit of a treat (a couple of carrots).
