Urbivore is a new social enterprise using market gardening to further economic and social development in the UK’s most deprived cities. We are now seeking an exceptional Head Grower to develop 20 acres of growing space, a strong and diverse customer base, and a socially inclusive labour model – with intern and apprenticeships, skilled volunteers and mentors.
Suitable candidates should have a minimum of 10yrs experience of productive horticulture and horticultural management in a commercial setting. Their commercial skill should be exceeded only by their knowledge and experience in coaxing high quality produce into life and creating the best soil to do so. They will be adept and thrilled at motivating staff and volunteers and inspiring them to exceed their expectations.
Experience in covered cropping, and selling through wholesale and retail channels, as well as a box scheme are desirable. Essential will be a commitment to a long-term vision for transforming this former golf course and livelihoods within the local community. The Head Grower will be a key appointment to a small entrepreneurial team.
This will be a full-time, permanent appointment, subject to confirmation of funds in May/June. Urbivore welcomes applications from diverse backgrounds.
In the meantime, Expressions of Interest are also invited from qualified candidates to undertake part-time consultancy March through to June.
