Farm Walk: Hindon Organic Farm, Somerset

23 April 2013 16:30 - 23 April 2013 19:30

Penny & Roger Webber,Hindon Organic Farm, Nr Minehead, Exmoor, Somerset, TA24 8SH

Farm Background: A typical Exmoor Hill farm (555 hectares), tenanted now from the National Trust, which has been in the Webber family for 3 generations.  We have pasture and graze adjacent moorland - Belted Galloway and Aberdeen Angus beef cattle, and sheep flocks, with a dozen Exmoor ponies helping with grazing the moor .   We keep a few Gloucester Old Spot pigs which we took out of organic production 2 years ago - they are still free range.  We make our own sausages, Hams and Bacon, and also put some of our lamb and beef through our little butchery - having gone organic 12 years ago we have no regrets.   We also run a B&B in the farmhouse and have a self catering holiday farm cottage.  A highlight of our farming life was winning the Soil Asssociation Organic Producer of the Year 2003 - and also other awards for our farm, conservation, and meat produce.  We have recently stopped attending so many farmers markets which we did enjoy doing and just attend local events as we can. Please visit www.hindonfarm.co.uk for more information.
