Mixed farming apprentice wanted

30 September 2011

An opportunity for an apprentice with an interest in horticulture and livestock, pigs and poultry to work on a mixed 650 acre organic farm in Leicestershire.

Oakley Grange has a wide range of enterprises including wetland grazing with a Lincoln Red pedigree herd, arable, 25 breeding sows, poultry and horticulture - both vegetables and fruit - including tunnel grown peaches and apricots. Almost all produce from the farm is sold through local outlets.

The farm is currently part of a Higher Level Stewardship agreement and has close links to a cluster of organic farms in the area. There will also be the opportunity to be involved in the soon to open farm deli and cafe with meeting facilities.

The future of food and farming is in the balance.

We urgently need additional funding to promote fairer, greener approaches to science and innovation.

We need to show how this can work in practice, and lobby government to gain farmers and the public a real voice in the research that is done in their name.
