Food for Life Catering Mark at inaugural Green League best practice seminar
03 November 2011
The Soil Association's Food for Life Catering Mark team will be speaking and running a workshop at a Sustainable Food Seminar in Oxford on Thursday 24 November. This is the first in a series of Green League best practice seminars organised by People & Planet, the largest student network in Britain campaigning to end world poverty, defend human rights and protect the environment.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore issues around sustainable food sourcing and production. The event aims to provide attendees with everything they need to know about how to improve their performance on sustainable food. Sustain: the alliance for better food and farming are also taking part.
Food accounts for one third of our global carbon footprint so it's an important area for universities who want to improve their sustainability. Independent evaluation has shown that Catering Mark menus are greener, with a 25% reduction in carbon emissions where one meat-free day is included in the menu each week. Universities who apply for the Catering Mark can secure points in the sustainable food category of People & Planet's annual Green League of universities.
Date: Thursday 24 November 2011
Time: 1pm – 5.30pm
