New sustainable cotton guide - out now
14 March 2012
Today Ecotextile News has launched a sustainable cotton guide; the most in-depth resource focused on more sustainable cotton yet created for the fashion and textiles industry.
The guide - written by Simon Ferrigno who sits on the Soil Association's textiles trade and standards group - details the main environmental and social issues resulting from cotton production, as well as the variety of self-assessment and independent third party certification schemes available to guide better or best practice.
Ferrigno cites organic cotton production as a 'whole systems approach' with incredible dynamism and diversity in the sector. Ferrigno has witnessed examples of organic cotton production reaping good yields and rewards for farmers, particularly as costs of inputs, such as pesticides or GM seeds, are often unaffordable.
