Film your dancing cows

20 March 2012

The Soil Association is working with the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA UK) to celebrate the annual farming tradition of 'turning out' the cows. If you keep cattle and are about to turn your cows out we want your help.

WSPA are about to launch a new campaign across Europe which aims to capture a defining moment of spring as cows run across the fields with joy, in a kind of 'dance'. We are joining with the WSPA to celebrate this annual dairy farming event, and to raise awareness of the importance of organic and pasture based farming and allowing cows the freedom to roam and graze.

To bring the experience to life we want short films - like the one above from White Farm in Dorset - of your happy cows running out to pasture this spring. Please send videos to press@soilassociation.org - films will feature on the Cow Dance site launching soon from WSPA, supported by the Soil Association.

As you know, when cows are allowed the freedom to graze on pasture, they can exhibit their natural social behaviour, have the space to roam and eat the grass that they are supposed to. The Soil Association and WSPA believe organic, grass-based systems are the most economically and environmentally sustainable option and we want to make sure consumers recognise and support the value of this approach.

We look forward to hearing from you! We will be in touch to let you know when the Cow Dance site has launched.
