Soil Association animal welfare standards ‘perform best’ in a new review by Compassion in World Farming

04 April 2012

Baby chicken in handsWe are pleased that the Soil Association is the highest rated scheme across all species in the newly published Compassion in World Farming (Ciwf) report: ‘Farm Assurance Schemes & Animal Welfare: How the standards compare 2012’. The report confirms the results of a review of animal welfare labelling schemes which BBC Countryfile recently carried out.

We welcome the fact that Ciwf recognises the positive action that the Soil Association, RSPCA, and the University of Bristol are taking to develop and pilot the use of a welfare outcomes assessment through the AssureWel project.

We will carefully review the conclusions and recommendations which Ciwf make for our scheme.
