Abbey Home Farm apprenticeship offered, Gloucs

11 February 2013

We have a two year Soil Association apprenticeship available in the market garden at Abbey Home Farm.

Our garden exists to supply the farmshop, café and green room with vegetables all the year round, (weather permitting!). We have six polytunnels and around 10 acres of outside growing space where we grow over 150 different varieties of vegetables, soft fruit and cut flowers. This is quite a challenge on Cotswold brash.

The outside team is made up of our head gardener, two or three apprentices, seasonal workers and one or two wwoofers in the season.
Potential apprentices usually work for around three months on a wwoofing/paid casual basis before being signed up to give both the apprentice and us the opportunity to see if a two year period would be beneficial to all.

Everyone who applies to work at Abbey Home Farm needs to have an enthusiastic and flexible attitude and to be a team player with a good work ethos. Although learning to grow is the main job, apprentices work at least one Saturday a month in the shop. Extra help is occasionally needed in the shop or café to cover sickness or holidays, or with a special event, and we are looking for someone who likes to lend a hand with a smile.

We are looking for someone who has done at least a season of casual work/wwoofing (not just a few weeks) so that they have already experienced working outside (in the rain and the wind and the MUD) on a daily basis and know that this sort of work suits them.

Basic rate pay with paid holidays. Simple subsidised accommodation probably available.

(Non smokers only and sorry no pets possible)

If you really really want to train to be a grower and like the look of us email a CV and covering letter to hilary@theorganicfarmshop.co.uk
Interviews will be from mid February.

See our website www.theorganicfarmshop.co.uk to learn more about what we do here.
