Brocton Leys

A warm welcome awaits you at Brocton Leys. Situated on the edge of Cannock Chase, the garden is beautiful, with lawns, vegetable plots, a herb garden, an old English apple orchard, fruit trees, nut trees, a woodland walk, ponds, greenhouses, and a polytunnel. This all gives a tranquil atmosphere that has been nurtured for more than a hundred years. The garden has organic certification with the soil association for more than 20 years, and before this it was used as a family garden growing vegetables and fruit.

We grow a small amount but a wide range of organic fruit and vegetables from seed. We rely on our own compost and green manures, but some horse manure comes from a local stable to add nutrients to the soil. All the waste from the garden gets recycled into recreating compost and fertility for the whole garden.

Courses

Learning takes place in a relaxed atmosphere, although this is a leisure course the student will acquire a sound knowledge of organic growing both theoretical and practical.

The courses are aimed at beginners but more experienced gardeners will also be gently stimulated and enthused into growing their own food throughout the year, and gaining knowledge and understanding of working with nature and applying organic principles to all aspects of their life.
