Smallholding/small scale farming
27 April 2013 10:00 - 27 April 2013 16:00
Clun Valley Organics, Brynmawr Farm, Newcastle on Clun, Shropshire SY7 8QU
Many people are buying houses with land which, though its romantic at the time, suddenly leaves them with a problem. This land needs maintaining. You could just mow it but where’s the fun or benefit in that? There are many things you could do with just 4 acres and a lot more with 30.
Or you may be thinking of going into a small farming enterprise and want to ‘try before you buy’ or you may just want a different experience – why not try farming for a day!
Our aim is to introduce you to different opportunities and how to go about them. Our expertise comes from the winning combination of an established farmer going organic (Trevor) and office bound beginners starting out in a new farming enterprise, who know what questions they had to ask and how they picked their way through the learning experience (James and Jacky).
The course will cover what you need to know about setting up a smallholding or small farm including rules and regulations, sheep and cattle breeds and basic handling, grassland management, tools and selling your products. The emphasis will be on organic farming. If you wish us to tailor your course then we can. To look at the farm go to our website.
Cost: £70 including organic lunch.
