Pen Y Lan, Monmouthshire

Pen-y-lan lies in the Monmouthshire countryside with lovely views to the Black Mountains and Sugar Loaf. The land covers 60 hectares and is part of the Tir Gofal environmental scheme. The farm rears beef cattle and sheep.

Mae Pen-y-lan yn nythu yng nghefn gwlad Mynwy ac mae yma olygfeydd hyfryd draw am y Mynydd Du a Phen-y-Fâl. Fferm 60 hectar yw hi, yn rhan o gynllun amgylcheddol Tir Gofal ac yn magu gwartheg eidion a defaid.

Organic cattle and sheep

The farm has a herd of 25 Aberdeen Angus and Murray Grey cattle, and a mixed flock of 170 sheep producing around 200 lambs. There are also chickens and three lamas. Beef, lamb and eggs are sold locally and the farm also cures sheepskins, which are sold through local farmers markets.

Mae'r fferm yn cadw buches o 25 o wartheg Aberdeen Angus a Murray Grey, a diadell gymysg o 170 o ddefaid sy'n rhoi oddeutu 200 o ŵyn. Ceir yma gywion ieir a thri lama hefyd. Caiff y cig eidion, y cig oen a'r wyau eu gwerthu'n lleol ac yn ogystal â hyn mae'r fferm yn trin crwyn defaid sy'n cael eu gwerthu drwy farchnadoedd lleol y ffermwyr.

Wildlife

The farm has both ancient and newly planted woodlands covering 6 hectares, and the farm is particularly committed to sustain abundant wildlife at all levels. This includes fencing off hedges, creating stream margins and hedge laying to encourage biodiversity. Walk the paths, streams and ponds and look out for linnets, heron, woodcock, snipe and woodpecker birds. At night you can see endangered horseshoe bats, as the woodland is one of their natural habitats.

Bywyd Gwyllt

Ar y fferm mae 6 hectar o goetiroedd hynafol a newydd-blanedig, ac mae Pen y Lan yn llwyr ymrwymedig i gynnal bywyd gwyllt toreithiog ar bob lefel. Golyga hyn ffensio cloddiau, creu glannau i'r ffrydiau a thacluso cloddiau i annog bioamrywiaeth. Cerddwch ar hyd y llwybrau, ffrydiau a phyllau a chwiliwch am adar megis y llinos, crëyr, cyffylog, gïach a chnocell y coed. Gyda'r nos, gallwch weld yr ystlum trwyn pedol sy'n rhywogaeth prin mewn perygl, gan mai coetir yw un o'i gynefinoedd naturiol.  

Arranging a visit   

Customers and schools are welcome to visit the farm by prior arrangement, and walk the farm trail.

Bydd croeso i gwsmeriaid ac ysgolion ymweld â'r fferm drwy drefnu ymlaen llaw, a cherdded llwybr y fferm.  

How to get there   

From Dingestow village, drive past the church and continue for 2 miles. Take the first road on the right towards the village of Hendre, and Pen Y Lan is the first farm that you come to.
