Visit an organic farm

West Town Farm, Devon

West Town Farm is a working organic beef and arable farm in a rural landscape and yet only three miles from Exeter city centre. It has 65 hectares of land, all of which are accessible for visiting groups and individuals. In this sense it is a unique centre having an integrated approach involving the working farm with education and the arts.

The farm has about 100 beef cows which are reared organically and we are working towards selling all our beef as locally as possible. We also have small-scale pig production and some arable crops and vegetables.

OrganicARTS is an Arts and Education Centre based at West Town Farm. OrganicARTS seeks to promote the arts and rural issues through educational visits and walks, classes, workshops, community projects, exhibitions and performances. These take place at West Town Farm, other local farms and in the wider community.

School visits Primary school children visit the farm to explore and engage in a range of activities including living and growing, study of natural and man-made features and poem writing. OrganicARTS seeks to develop long term relationships with schools allowing the children to gain a real sense of connection with the farm. One local school - Alphington Combined School - has built farm visits into their curriculum development across the whole school. OrganicARTS can lead your visit for a fee, or can make the farm available for you to lead your own visit (free). If you would like to find out more about the farm OrganicARTS has a Teachers Pack which  can be sent on request (either electronically or hard copy).
