 ABOUT THE FARM

Funding logoWhat to look out for
Llystyn Farm is a family farm run by Cliff, Maureen and Simon Carnell keeping beef and sheep and also growing corn. Situated in the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains of Wales, the farm is managed under Tir Gofal, an environment scheme for farms, and a barn has been converted to use for self-catering holiday accommodation.

Beth i chwilio amdano
Fferm deuluol yw Llystyn sy'n cael ei rhedeg gan Cliff, Maureen a Simon Carnell ac mae'n cadw eidion a defaid yn ogystal â thyfu ŷd. Wedi ei lleoli ar odre Mynyddoedd y Cambria yng Nghymru, mae'r fferm dan reolaeth Tir Gofal, cynllun amgylcheddol ar gyfer ffermydd, ac mae yma hen sgubor wedi'i thrawsnewid yn llety gwyliau hunan-arlwy.

Encouraging wildlife
In 2000, Llystyn Farm won the Lorraine Award for an organically managed farm where profitable husbandry, the production of healthy food and the conservation of wildlife work together. The farm encourages positive wildlife conservation by restricting grazing in some woodland, has renovated 4.5 miles of hedgerow to improve wildlife corridors. Under the Tir Gofal scheme there have been restrictions on grazing to encourage wild flowers and on winter stubbles to encourage more birds. New broad-leaved woodland has been planted.

Annog Bywyd Gwyllt
Yn 2000, enillodd Llystyn Wobr Lorraine am fferm a reolir yn organig lle mae hwsmonaeth broffidiol, cynhyrchu bwyd iach a gwarchod bywyd gwyllt yn mynd law yn llaw. Mae'r fferm yn hybu cadwraeth bywyd gwyllt mewn modd cadarnhaol trwy gyfyngu ar bori mewn ambell i goetir, ac wedi creu 4.5 milltir o gloddiau i wella rhodfeydd bywyd gwyllt. O dan gynllun Tir Gofal cafwyd cyfyngiadau ar bori er mwyn cymell blodau gwyllt.

Historical Features
All historic landscape features, rock features and traditional buildings have been safeguarded. Look out for the 1738 farmstead, the stone built barn, remains of a well, a decorative pond and old trackways.
Allt Llystyn Plantation appears on an 1811 Ordnance Survey map and is filled with bluebells, which suggests it has never been ploughed. Many of its plants such as wood sorrel and creeping jenny are ancient woodland indicators.

Nodweddion Hanesyddol
Mae'r tirlun hanesyddol, y creigiau ac adeiladau traddodiadol oll i gyd wedi eu diogelu. Sylwch ar y fferm sy'n dyddio nôl i 1738, y sgubor gerrig, gweddillion ffynnon, pwll dŵr addurnedig a hen sarnau.
Ymddengys Planhigfa Allt Llystyn ar fap Arolwg Ordnans 1811. Mae'n gyforiog o glychau'r gog sy'n awgrymu na chafodd ei aredig erioed. Mae llawer o'r planhigion sydd yma, e.e. y Wermod Lwyd a'r Siani Lusg yn nodweddion o goetir hynafol.

Organic Cattle and Sheep
The farm has a herd of 12 South Devon cross suckler cows and 90 Welsh Mountain ewes. Calves on the farm are reared, fattened and sold for beef after 18 months. The cattle graze organic pastures from May till November, and rotational grazing of permanent pastures helps to control internal parasites. Cattle are wintered in yards bedded with homegrown straw, and both cattle and sheep are fed a wholly organic diet.

Gwartheg a Defaid Organig
Mae gan y fferm fuches o 12 o fuchod croes-sugno De Dyfnaint a 90 o famogiaid Mynydd Cymreig. Mae’r lloi ar y fferm yn cael eu magu a’u pesgi ac yna’u gwerthu am eu cig ar ôl 18 mis. Mae’r gwartheg yn pori ar borfeydd organig o fis Mai hyd fis Tachwedd, ac mae system o bori cylchdro ar waith yn y porfeydd parhaol i reoli niferoedd y parasitiaid mewnol. Mae’r gwartheg yn gaeafu mewn buarthau ar sarn o wellt a dyfwyd ar y fferm, ac mae deiet y gwartheg a’r defaid yn gwbl organig.

Organic cereals and roots
24 hectares of cereals and roots are grown, and field margins and winter stubbles are left for wildlife. Undersowing some cereals with red or white clover provides an August silage crop which enriches the pasture for autumn lambs. Composted farmyard manure is then returned to the cereal fields. The farm has recently extended broad-leaved woodland from 6 hectares to 14 hectares.

Grawnfwyd a gwreiddgnydau organig
Tyfir 24 hectar o rawnfwydydd a gwreiddgnydau, gan adael ymylon y caeau a’r sofl gaeaf ar gyfer bywyd gwyllt. Drwy hau meillion coch neu wyn dan rai o’r grawnfwydydd ceir cnwd silwair ym mis Awst sy’n cyfoethogi’r porfeydd ar gyfer ŵyn yr hydref. Yna rhoddir tail y buarth wedi’i gompostio yn ôl ar y caeau grawnfwyd. Yn ddiweddar mae’r fferm wedi ymestyn ei choetir llydanddail o 6 hectar i 14 hectar.
