Write to your MP about bees

We want the Government to ban neonicotinoids to help ensure the health and future of our bees. If you would like to take further action to assist our campaign, we would like to invite you to write to your local MP, asking them to raise their concerns with Caroline Spelman, Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

If you agree with us, then please include some of the following points in your letter:

  • Countries such as France, Germany and Italy have enough good evidence to ban or suspend the use of certain neonicotinoid pesticides, why can’t the UK?
  • What independent research (not pesticide industry data, which is often used) is Defra doing on the issue of the impacts of neonicotinoids on bee health? And how soon can that research be carried out?
  • How much of the recently announced £10 million research budget will be put towards addressing this issue?
  • Which is the bigger priority for the government – pesticide industry profits, or UK bees?

To email your MP:

  1. First you need to know their name. If you don’t, you can find the name of your local MP by going to www.writetothem.com and entering your postcode.
  2. On the following page, you can click on the name of your MP (in the third column) and email them by following the instructions on the Write to Them site.
  3. If you’d prefer to email them yourself, most MPs can be contacted by using the following format of email address: secondnamefirstinitial@parliament.uk. For instance, to email David Cameron you would use camerond@parliament.uk. You can check your MP's email address on the Parliament website.

If you prefer you can send a letter to:

‘Local MP’s name’ MP (i.e. David Cameron MP)

SW1A 0AA

When you write please send a copy of your letter to the Policy Team at the Soil Association. Email bees@soilassociation.org or write to Policy Team, Soil Association, South Plaza, Marlborough Street, Bristol, BS1 3NX
