Food for Life Served Here provides a clear framework and a visible award to demonstrate that your school food is ethical, sustainable and fresh, free from nasty additives and transfats and meets school food standards.
Why choose Food for Life Served Here?
- Help improve the nation’s health.
Fresh food that meets nutritional guidelines in schools can lead to increased meal take-up and better concentration and performance in the classroom, as well as positively influencing eating habits in later life.
- Meet high standards.
Food for Life Served Here provides an independent verification that your food is fresh, sustainable and from traceable sources – key principles of the latest School Food Standards in England (read the School Food Plan to find out more) or the Scottish Government Nutritional Guidelines in Scotland.
- Demonstrate positive food culture.
From September 2015, OFTSED inspections in England include a look at a school’s food culture. Caterers that serve Food for Life meals are well-placed to score highly in inspections, wherever they are in the UK.
Is this the Food For Life Schools Award?
No. Food for Life Served Here is awarded to external school caterers and complements the Food For Life Schools award (which does not operate in Scotland) to ensure that the food served within your school matches the work that you are doing with regards to food education in line with your Food For Life Schools Award.
If you are a school in England with an external caterer and wish to apply to the Food for Life award, then your caterer must have a Food for Life Served Here award for the same level or higher for the school meals served to that school.
