Food and drink inspection update

Food and drink inspection update

Throughout this pandemic, the safety of both our clients and our staff has been paramount.

One of the early impacts of COVID-19 was on our inspectorate, with Soil Association Certification being the first organic certification body to cease all physical inspections, and then within a short time, pioneering a remote inspection process for all existing clients. The roll out of these remote inspections has been positively received, as a clear process was outlined and communicated, to ensure licence integrity and cause minimal disruption to businesses, many who have seen extraordinary increases in demand for their products.

We're now considering how we're going to deliver inspections over the coming months. Our inspectorate management have begun to implement methods to conduct physical inspections on site - in a safe and appropriate way that will ensure the integrity of the inspection - and that the wellbeing of all involved is not compromised. Risk assessments are in place to ensure that government guidelines are adhered to, and training of our inspectors is underway to ensure they're fully informed about safe working practices. We're gradually starting to undertake a very limited number of site physical inspections – starting with food & drink clients only - determined on a case by case basis.

We're continually monitoring the situation, in line with any updates to government guidelines, and will only return to a full programme of physical inspections when it's considered safe for both staff and licensees.
