What is happening in the UK?
Ruth Mason - 02 March 2012
It has been an interesting start to the event with Helen Browning outlining the need to increase innovation and encourage more people to be eating good quality healthy diets.
Within Helen’s introduction to the event she gave a short insight to the Soil Associations annual report, this shows that sales of organic products within the UK have declined by around 3.5%. This however is untrue of the rest of the world which has seen sales increase by around 8%. So why is this? Do consumers not understand what organic products offer? Is the situation worse than this and they do understand but are choosing not to purchase the product?
Helen Browning felt that retailers need to have more confidence in organic products. Will this happen whilst sales continue to decline though?
It will be interesting to see what further details the report contains.
