New faces in the Producer Certification Team

SA Producer Certification updates

The Soil Association Produce Certification team has undergone some changes over the past couple of months.

At the end of January, we said a fond farewell to Caroline Sherrott, who went on maternity leave for a year. Stephen Smith will be filling her position as Senior Certification Manager, with Hannah Simpson taking on the role of Certification Manager.

New faces

We'd also like to welcome some new faces to the team:

  • Hazel Dardis – Hazel grew up on a beef suckler farm in Westmeath, Ireland. She gained an Agricultural Science degree from University College Dublin, specialising in animal science. Hazel spent her university placements working on various farming enterprises in Ireland and the UK, before joining the Soil Association Producer Certification Team in December 2018. In her free time, enjoys horse-riding and spending time with her three dogs and family back in Ireland

  • Max Eckert – Max grew up on a small holding in the Wye Valley. Looking after sheep, pigs, chickens, bees and a large kitchen garden at home inspired Max to study Agriculture at the University of Nottingham. During his time at university, Max worked on several arable, root crop and soft fruit farms over the summer months to gain more hands-on experience. At the weekend, you'll usually find Max rock climbing in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean.

  • Philippa Gist – Philippa studied Zoology in Falmouth and, since graduating, has worked on a variety of horticultural projects based in the UK and abroad. She spent a year travelling through Central and South America, working closely with community growing and food education outreach programmes. Before joining the Soil Association, she worked on a biodynamic farm in Herefordshire. Outside of work Phili can be found making pots or cycling around on her bike, she often escapes back to Cornwall for a swim in the sea and a pasty.

We will also shortly be welcoming Arthur Fuest to the team as a Certification Officer.
