BOOM, shake, shake, shake the room

BOOM shake shake shake the room!

Organic is BOOMing, with growth in the UK organic market of 4.9% last year and a value of nearly £2 billion sales there’s never been a better time to go organic. The Best of Organic Market awards are designed to celebrate the people and businesses, from farmers to caterers to brands, working so hard to make a difference and changing our food system for the better. The awards ceremony went down with a great big BOOM on Wednesday 11 May, at a glittering and downright delicious do at London’s iconic Market Hall, Borough Market.

The venue looked absolutely stunning as guests arrived to refreshing London & Scottish Juniper Green Trophy Gin cocktails and a live cooking demonstration by the masterful chefs of the Riverford Field Kitchen.

We found someone who is as passionate about organic as we are - Anna Jones – to be our official BOOMbassador, (cook, food stylist, Guardian columnist and author of two highly acclaimed books). Anna opened the awards with inspiring words in support of all the wonderful entries and contributors to the market, and presented the Nation’s Favourite Organic Award, voted for by members of the public, to the delicious chocolate people at Booja-Booja.

The awards continued apace, presented by the leading lights of the industry including Lizzie Riviera of the Evening Standard, Dan Rusga Director of Marketing Yeo Valley, Tom Hunt Co-founder of Poco Tapas Bar, food writer Rachel De Thample and Tom Herbert of Hobbs House Bakery. The worthy winners; big, Waitrose (supermarket) and small, Bangor Organic (places to stay), new, Rebel Recipes (food blog) and established, Doves Farm Organic (bakery), near, Plenish level 1 Cleanse, London (non-alcoholic drinks), and far, Pillars of Hercules, Fife (farm shop), got the credit they deserved from the 250 guests. Full list of winners awards available here.

With the support of Organic Trade Board, Yeo Valley, Fyffes, Thomas Ridley and Ocado the BOOMs really made some noise about organic, trending on twitter with lots of fantastic press coverage. With nearly 5% growth in the market next year will be even bigger.
