For Peat's Sake!
Managing Peatlands and Upland Grazing
Monday 7th August, West Linton, 10.30am-2pm
Peatlands – friend or foe? This interactive meeting will focus on the current and future role that peatlands play within our hill farms.
Currently a valuable carbon sink, flood water store, wildlife habitat and clean water filter, will peatlands prove to be a future ‘cash cow’ for hill farms?
How can you, as farmers, increase the value of peatlands by restoration and, most importantly, how is this funded?
This morning workshop aims to give you an insight to this emerging topic, and will also feature Emily Taylor from Scottish Natural Heritage, Peatland Action and well known hill grazing consultant Ian Cairns, who will discuss upland grazing, and how peatland restoration complements hill farming systems.
Funding is provided through SRDP Knowledge Transfer and Innovation Fund (which is jointly funded by the Scottish Government and the European Union) with partner funding from Scottish Water and RSPB Scotland. (This event is part of a wider KTIF programme, Farming With Nature.)
