Find out who's making your cuppa!
We’re the Tea Guys here for Clipper, and it’s our responsibility to oversee the buying, blending and slurping of each and every cup of naturally-delicious Clipper tea.
Clipper, the iconic tea brand owned by Wessanen UK, is based in Beaminster, West Dorset and has a strong heritage of ethical practice and responsible sourcing. The first brand to offer green tea to consumers in UK supermarkets 20 years ago, Clipper was also the first ever UK tea to carry the Fairtrade mark. We’re very proud of that.
We believe that how we work is just as important as what we make and sell. We’re driven to make great-tasting, natural tea that’s ethically sourced; making a difference cup by cup
A commitment to organic lies at the very heart of both Clipper and our owner, Wessanen UK. Wessanen works hard to make healthy, natural food more interesting and accessible, and this ethos is channelled throughout Clipper Teas.
Wessanen is obsessive about organic and is one of the few food companies in the world to have its own Organic Expertise Centre (OEC), which was set up to support Wessanen’s mission: ‘Healthier Food, Healthier People, Healthier Planet’. The OEC centrally aligns organic expertise and quality, resulting in a more integrated approach and an exchange of best practices in relation to the quality of ingredients, products and processes. It also focuses on engaging Wessanen’s own people and helps them to increase their knowledge on organic and vegetarian food.
What’s your main motivation?
We believe that how we work is just as important as what we make and sell. We’re driven to make great-tasting, natural tea that’s ethically sourced; making a difference cup by cup. We believe that every cup of Clipper teas should be special and that’s why we travel the world working with growers from the best tea gardens in Africa, India, China and Sri Lanka.
A commitment to strong - and lengthy - supply chain relationships built on two-way trust means we can ensure that processing quality standards remain high and in line with the Clipper taste profile, which we never compromise on.
What’s next for you and Clipper?
It was back in 1994 that we launched the first Fairtrade tea into UK supermarkets and now our tea is exported worldwide.
As a business, we have successfully capitalised on shifting consumer trends and demands and this, coupled with our very high ethical and strict quality standards, has enabled us to successfully break into a number of key markets around the world. We are very proud of our roots and have created a world class centre of manufacturing excellence in Beaminster as we gear up for future growth and the development of many more delicious blends.
