Pillars of Hercules
The Soil Association has awarded the first ever five-star rated Organic Served Here award to Pillars of Hercules café, based in Falkland, Fife. The top award celebrates a commitment to serving great food using 95-100% organic ingredients.
Owner Bruce Bennett said: “We are very proud to be the first ever five-star Organic Served Here award holder. With some hard work, and equal measures of dedication and commitment to organic produce, we hope to lead the way for other businesses to achieve the five stars!”
Pillars café was established in 2001 by owners Bruce and Judy Bennett. The café is set within 25 acres of certified organic farm and only uses organic ingredients, of which the majority are sourced onsite. No stranger to awards, Pillars of Hercules also picked up a Best of Organic Market (BOOM) award last year for their successful farm shop.
Alison Muirhead, Business Development Manager at Soil Association Scotland, said: “Pillars has gone above and beyond in every single way. The majority of produce is grown on site and they go out of their way to be as sustainable and resourceful as possible (they have solar panels and an electric car charging point); it really makes them stand out from the rest.”
