New certification service in Scotland
Soil Association Certification has announced the addition of a new Certification Officer, Abigail Catt, who will be based in the Soil Association Scotland office in Edinburgh. This new appointment in Scotland will increase specialist support and boost access to certification advice for organic farmers and growers in Scotland and the North of England.
The Scottish government are increasing payment support for organic farming so this is an interesting time for farmers and growers who are considering converting to organic, and those already part of the organic market. Organic certification is an assurance for consumers of quality and sustainability – access to a dedicated Certification Officer in Scotland will be an additional resource for certified organic farmers and those looking to attain certification.
Lyn White, Agricultural Development Manager, Soil Association Scotland said: “We work closely with many licensees in Scotland and the addition of Abigail to the team will be a real asset. She will be able to support farmers looking to convert their farms to organic production and help existing licensees with more closely tailored support for their organic businesses. I am looking forward to introducing Abi to Scottish farmers when we attend Agriscot on the 18th November.”
Abigail will work closely with Lyn White to keep up to date with farming news and opportunities in Scotland and the North of England. Soil Association Certification is investing more resources into organic farming in Scotland and the appointment of an Edinburgh based certification officer will give Soil Association Certification an improved understanding of the Scottish farming landscape and of the issues faced by Scottish farmers.
