Marton Villa Farm, Cheshire

Marton Villa is a 80Ha mixed farm set in the heart of the Cheshire countryside. The farm converted to organic farming in 2001 with a long term aim of being a mixed farm with laying hens and chickens, dairy cows, beef and sheep. Marton Villa aims to sell much of its produce direct to the public and welcome visitors to the farm.

Mixed organic farming

In an area dominated by intensive dairy and arable monoculture Marton Villa farm is an oasis of organic production with a mixed farming system including cereals, grass, cattle and sheep. Bees are also kept in 8 hives on the farm.

Countryside and conservation

A broad range of wildlife co exist with the farm activities. Hares, foxes, rabbits, skylarks and woodpeckers are common. Buzzards, badgers and dabchick have also been seen on the farm. Butterflies and bumblebees thrive in the clover rich grassland that is so essential to establish fertility for organic crops.

By buying organic dairy products you will be supporting an environmentally friendly way of farming, helping with the preservation of the countryside and promoting a better quality of life for farm animals. Look out for seasonal produce from the farm in local shops. Call the farm for details.  

Arranging a visit   

Marton Villa aims to build a relationship with the public all too rarely found in modern farming. You are always welcome to visit the farm to see progress, walk farm trails on the regular open days. We are happy to host farm walks and talks for groups throughout the year by prior appointment. School parties are invited to use the planned farm class room and visitor centre. Teachers packs and national curriculum links are available, please contact the farm to find out more.  

How to get there   

A farm trail follows via public footpaths through the fields. On special open days, it is easy to access the trail from the gate at point 1 on the map. You can park at the Whitegate Way car park.
