Transforming the Way we Eat
Do you believe good food should be the easy choice for everyone?
So do we.
The Soil Association’s Food for Life scheme is revolutionising food in nurseries, schools, universities, hospitals, care homes and workplaces – reaching people at all stages of their lives.
But it’s not just about the healthy, tasty, and sustainable food on the plate – the scheme also connects people with where their food comes from, and teaches them how it’s grown and cooked.
Through our Catering Mark, we are setting the catering standard and making good food available in public places. People are now enjoying nearly two million Catering Mark meals every day.
With Food for Life teams based in Bristol and Edinburgh, as well as regional programme managers all across the UK, we’re really reaching a lot of people.
- Pupils in Food for Life schools are twice as likely to eat five or more portions of fruit and vegetables a day than children in comparison schools.
- For every £1 spent on Food for Life menus, £3 is put back into the community.
- Twice as many primary schools received an Ofsted rating of Outstanding following their participation in Food for Life.
Food for Life’s work is outstanding. It shows what can be done to enhance patients’ well-being, which then improves staff’s well-being too. We have to make food and drink a critical part of the patient’s recovery and [Food for Life] will assist and drive us to achieving this.Andy Jones Chair of the Hospital Caterers Association
