Wine consultation - sulphur dioxide levels

This consulation has now closed.

Soil Association standards for sulphur dioxide levels in wine do not include maximum levels for wines with between 2-4.9g/l of residual sugar. The Processing Standards Committee proposes to slightly raise SO₂ levels for red wines with this sugar level, and to adopt the Demeter biodynamic levels for white and rosé wines in this category.

Wine must not exceed the following sulphur dioxide levels:

130 mg/l (50 mg/l free SO₂) red
160 mg/l (50 mg/l free SO₂) white & rosé
