Transforming the way we eat

The food we eat affects our health, our communities and the planet. We’re working to change how food is produced, served and shared, so healthy, sustainable food becomes the easy, everyday choice for everyone.

We work to make good food the easy choice for everyone, whoever and wherever they are.

We want a healthy, thriving population that buys, grows, cooks and eats good food. Together, we can transform the way we eat and put good food on the menu, in the curriculum, and in all the places people live their daily lives.

What does good food mean?

It means a healthy, sustainable diet

Eating fewer highly-processed foods that are high in fat, salt and sugar. Eating less meat, but choosing higher-quality meat. Eating more fruit and vegetables, whole grains and sustainably sourced fish.

It means food you can trust

Choosing fresh, local and seasonal food that’s produced in ways that protect the climate and support high animal welfare standards.

It means eating together

Creating more chances to share meals with others - strengthening families, reducing loneliness and helping communities feel more connected.

How does Food for Life help?

Illnesses caused by a poor diet are one of the biggest public health challenges of our time. More children than ever are overweight or obese. Left unchecked, obesity and diabetes threaten to bankrupt the NHS.

Soil Association's Food for Life is making good food the easy choice for everyone. We are making healthy, tasty and sustainable meals the norm, reconnecting people with where their food comes from by teaching them how it’s grown and cooked, and championing the importance of well-sourced ingredients.

We bring schools, nurseries, hospitals, caterers, care homes, and their surrounding communities together through food, engaging children, parents, staff, patients and visitors, caterers, carers and the wider community to create a powerful voice for long-term change.

We have commissioned Food for Life across both Early Years and School settings in Leicestershire as it is at the heart of our long-term strategic plans to introduce sustainable and positive behavioural change around food and nutrition.

Review food on the high street and at attractions

Get involved in our Out To Lunch campaign, which has improved over 50 million children's meals out on the high street and at visitor attractions each year. The campaign runs every 2 years and sends an army of secret diner parents to assess the quality of kids' food at popular UK high street food chains and attractions.
