Soil Association are involved with 2 internationally recognised organic textiles certification schemes.
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) was developed through collaboration by leading standard setters with the aim of defining requirements that are recognised worldwide. These ensure the organic status of textiles from the harvesting of the raw materials - including requirements related to environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing - all the way to labelling, in order to provide credible assurance to the consumer.
Textile Exchange's Organic Content Standard verifies that a product contains organically grown material. It does not address the use of chemicals or any social or environmental aspects of production; it only covers the traceability of the organic material. The OCS uses the chain of custody requirements of the Textile Exchange Content Claim Standard (CCS).
