ACT NOW, CHANGE FOREVER - Together for people, climate and nature

ACT NOW, CHANGE FOREVER - Together for people, climate and nature

On Wednesday 9th July, thousands of people from parliamentary constituencies across the UK will travel to Westminster to meet their representative Members of Parliament as part of a Mass Lobby for climate, nature, health, communities and all our futures. The Soil Association is supporting this gathering of voices, a mass lobby of people holding powerful conversations with their parliamentary representatives, on issues they care about. We will be in attendance on the day and invite all our supporters to join us.

Act now, change forever

Organised by The Climate Coalition, of which the Soil Association is a member organisation, under the banner Act Now, Change Forever, meetings will be set up between MPs and their constituents across bespoke venues in Westminster, near the Houses of Parliament, with specific timeslots arranged to facilitate these conversations. Please join us by registering on The Climate Coalition website. You’ll need to provide your postcode so you can link up with your MP and your email address. The Climate Coalition will then confirm your registration and invite you to email your MP through their web platform, arranging your appointment for you.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve never met your MP before. Just talk about what matters to you. As a resident in their parliamentary constituency, your MP is there to represent your concerns and wishes in calling for change at government level. The Climate Coalition is also providing training to help build confidence to talk to your MP and you may be eligible for some travel funds. All the information you need will be provided when you register to join the lobby.

Call for action on climate and a greener, fairer, healthier future for all

There are three main asks of MPs The Climate Coalition is asking everyone joining the lobby to support. They are asking MPs to back bold, practical action by committing to:

1. Deliver vital funding to communities hit hardest by climate change here and around the world

2. Cut bills, back UK jobs, and secure a greener fairer future for all

3. Restore nature to create a safer, healthier future

This future requires a just transition for food and farming

A just transition for farming towards the production and consumption of healthy, sustainable food is a vital element in addressing climate change, biodiversity loss and healthier, more resilient communities.

In addition to the headline asks developed by The Climate Coalition, we will be asking MPs to

1. Support more climate resilient food and farming, as seen in organic and agroecological systems.

Organic farming increases soil health and carbon storage and reduces the need for inputs such as nitrogen fertiliser, an important contributor to climate change.

2. Save our soils

Organic and other sustainable farming systems improve soil quality, increasing its viability as a carbon store

3. Plant more trees

Supporting farmers to grows trees on farms increases carbon storage, provides wildlife habitat and supports diverse food production.

These areas were identified in a recent supporter survey as the top three priority messages to raise with MPs. We’d love you to raise them with your MPs.

Please join us in Westminster on 9th July. Anyone attending will receive a free t-shirt!
