Change to free-range egg labelling requirements during mandatory housing orders for poultry

Changes have been recently published to the Free-range Egg marketing standards regulations in both England and Wales.

These changes allow free-range egg producers and packers to label and market the eggs as free-range for the duration of a mandatory housing measure, however long that may last.

Previously the legislation would not allow the eggs to be sold as free-range if the housing order extended beyond 16 weeks.

The organic regulation already allows eggs to continue to be labelled as organic during a mandatory housing order provided that all other organic requirements are met.
