Oil Palm Ingredients Consultation
The Soil Association is planning to add a new sourcing requirement for oil palm ingredients to our organic standards.
We invite you to respond to the consultation by taking our short survey.
We know that Soil Association symbol holders are concerned about the potential negative impacts of unsustainable palm oil production, and that it’s an important issue for consumers too.
We’ve recently updated our policy position on palm oil. In parallel, we’ve been working with a host of dedicated experts to draft a new sourcing requirement for palm oil (and other ingredients of the oil palm tree).
This requirement aims to offer a practical step in creating even stronger safeguards for the environment by protecting natural areas of High Conservation Value (including primary forest) across organic supply chains in places not certified directly by the Soil Association.
We are asking for feedback on our proposed approach to understand the impact and feasibility of implementing the requirement that we’re proposing. This is to help us ensure that any action we take in this area is meaningful and effective.
We want to hear from you if you’re a:
- Soil Association Certification licensee who buys oil palm ingredients for organic food or feed products
- A retailer who stocks Soil Association certified products
- An organic palm oil company e.g. producers, processors and importers of organic oil palm ingredients
The consultation will take the form of a short survey which will help us better understand the implications and feasibility of this new sourcing requirement in relation to you and your business.
