Land Trust trustee

Michael’s original career was as a rural chartered surveyor with Smiths Gore and Savills. He specialised in providing strategic oversight for rural estates, together with advice on business structures, management and governance. He also supervised multi-disciplinary teams in their delivery of complex projects, both for the firm and for clients.

Michael now mixes being a consultant to Rankine Rural Ltd, running Lord Crewe’s Charity and various other board positions. This includes being a trustee to the Northumberland National Park Foundation and Groundwork NE and Cumbria.

Additionally, Michael and his wife run a diversified upland grazing livestock farm in mid-Northumberland. This is through a contract farming agreement with Aberdeen Angus cows, Lleyn ewes and red deer.
