Fipronil & Imported Eggs

Fipronil & Imported Eggs

A number of farms in the EU have been linked to the recent contamination of eggs, caused by the illegal application of Fipronil.  Fipronil is not authorised for use as a veterinary medicine or pesticide around food producing animals.

Although some organic farms in the EU were affected, to date we have no information to suggest that any UK farms, including organic farms, have been affected. We will of course continue to closely monitor the situation.

The latest advice on the Food Standards Agency website can be found here.

If you have any concerns over eggs or products containing eggs that you have purchased you should check with your suppliers and follow the advice of the FSA. If you are a member of the British Egg Industry Council (BEIC), then they can also be contacted for further information.
