Abattoirs & Butchers - Salmonella update

You may have already been contacted by Public Health England (PHE) and the Food Standards Agency (FSA) regarding a recent outbreak of Salmonella, suspected to originate from cross contamination between species in abattoirs, meat cutting plants, other business processing meat products, or in the homes of consumers.

The FSA have issued guidance to food businesses and there is advice for consumers available on the .Gov website. We strongly advise all of our licensees handling meat and meat products to maintain your usual high standards of food safety and pay particular attention to the guidance issued by the FSA. There is no suggestion that lamb or mutton should be withdrawn from sale or discarded.
