Switch to organic lecithin

Reminder of requirement for use of organic lecithin from 1st January 2019

As previously advised in Certification News, from 1st January 2019, all lecithin used in organic products must be organic. This means any product you process or pack from 1st January 2019 must use organic lecithin.

Ingredients containing non-organic lecithin may not be used in the production of organic food from 1st January 2019 onwards. This includes all production methods including remoulding chocolate mass.

Defra have confirmed that retail packed product made in 2018 using non-organic lecithin may be sold in 2019.

Action you need to take:

If you use lecithin in your products, ensure you are able to secure an organic version from 1st January 2019.

Please note: Defra will be unable to give derogations to use non-organic, as this requirement was published by the EC in April 2016. Please see here for details of the regulation.

If you have any questions, please contact your certification officer.
