Organic certificate updates after Brexit

Organic certificate updates after Brexit

From 1st January 2021, the UK will no longer be part of the EU.

As a result, some organic certificates will be updated to reference our EU Equivalent Organic Standards.

Find the latest update on what Brexit means for your organic certificate here.

  1. Licensees with GB certification
  2. Licensees in Northern Ireland

Licensees with GB certification

We can confirm that if you hold an organic certificate referring to the EU Organic Regulation which has an expiry date beyond the 1st January 2021 it will remain valid.

DEFRA have confirmed that where the wording on your organic certificate refers to the EU Organic Regulation standards, this does not need to change.

Great Britain (GB) has retained the requirements of the EU Organic Regulation, so all references remain the same but are read as GB law. From 1st January 2021, the references to Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 and Commission Regulations (EC) Nos 889/2008 and 1235/2008 will be read as they have effect in Great Britain.

Licensees in Northern Ireland

If you are in Northern Ireland, you will still be certified to the EU Organic Regulation, so there will be no changes to the standards referenced on your certificate.
