Change to non-organic protein feed allowance in Northern Ireland

Change to non-organic protein feed allowance in Northern Ireland

The EU Commission have confirmed that the extension of the 5% non-organic protein feed allowance for pigs and poultry, which were put in place following shortages as a result of the invasion of Ukraine, will end on 24th February this year.

After this date the 5% allowance can only be used for young pigs up to 35kg in weight and poultry up to 18 weeks old. This change affects licensees certified to the Organic Standards For Northern Ireland.

For those certified under the Organic Standards For Great Britain, 5% non-organic protein feed can be fed to all ages of pig and poultry when suitable organic protein ingredients are not available (std 3.10.8).

Please ensure that feeds are compliant with the new requirements after 24th February this year. Do contact your certification officer with any questions.
