New ILO criteria & indicators for NFSS

New ILO criteria & indicators for NFSS

In August 2017, the FSC® Board of Directors approved the report submitting the generic International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) criteria and indicators based on the principles of the ILO Core Conventions and the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work (1998). These criteria and indicators refer specifically to the effective abolition of child labour, the elimination of all forms of forced or compulsory labour, the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation, freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.

Now that this report has been approved, the generic ILO criteria and indicators have to be incorporated into National Forest Stewardship Standards (NFSS) and Interim National Standards developed by Standard Development Groups and Certification Bodies, respectively. For this, FSC will start with a technical revision process to incorporate the ILO criteria and indicators into the IGI Standard and the GFSS.

The report including the approved set of generic ILO criteria and indicators is available here. We will keep you updated on further details and progress of this process.
