What you will learn
This online course will explain the key requirements in the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) procedure including impact demonstration, getting your claims validated and verified, and managing any sponsorship that might be relevant.
The course is based on v2.1 of the FSC Ecosystem Services Procedure, which includes 7 ecosystem service categories:
biological conservation
carbon sequestration and storage
water services
soil conservation
recreational services
cultural practices and values
air quality
Course learning objectives:
Develop a better understanding of the concept of ecosystems services, as well as the FSC Ecosystem service procedures, and how they relate to FSC Forest Management.
Better understand specific ecosystem service impacts and claims, and how these may be developed.
Discover the market opportunities for verified FSC ecosystem service claims and potential investment for forest conservation and responsible forest management.
Who the course is for
You may be:
managing an FSC-certified forest and interested in making ecosystem services claims as well as timber claims
a forest manager interested in FSC certification, who can’t justify the costs of certification from timber sales alone
interested in finding out more about how a certification scheme has developed a procedure to support the validation and verification of ecosystem services
If you don't intend to become a qualified auditor, you can still attend. You may find it helpful to improve your understanding of the FSC process, or to improve procedures (for existing certificate holders or companies planning to become certified).
