In memory of Raphaël
Raphaël Pryor tragically died whilst playing a sports match at his school on 16 March 2024. He was born on 13 August 2006, so he was 17 when he died. He was the only child of his parents, Michael and Sabine.
Raphaël was a great lover of the outdoors. In particular, he was a keen fisherman. He also loved nature, the mountains, birds and other wildlife. He was physically active and very fit, and was starting to appreciate the need to take care of what he ate. He had begun to see how the natural world was changing even in his own short life, and he was concerned that the environment he was expecting to grow up into was changing for the worse. He also appreciated that too much of the food being offered on shop shelves is bad for the end consumers and the environment.

His mother, Sabine, is a Trustee of the Soil Association, and they were both increasingly discussing the urgent need for human activities to be more sustainable whilst enabling people to eat more healthily. They focused, in particular, on agriculture, because of Sabine’s interests and Raphaël’s understanding of how it affects the countryside, and the rivers and lakes he used to enjoy fishing in, which he could see were getting more polluted and supporting less variety of life. He also appreciated that healthy eating is vital for our physical and mental well-being.
Sadly, Raphaël no longer has a direct personal interest in the future of the planet, but his parents, Michael and Sabine, believe it would be fitting for any who would wish to remember his life to give to a charity whose aim is to help both the environment and food consumers. We hope that this would benefit the generation that Raphaël has left behind and be a legacy of a life that was cut so cruelly short.
Thank you.
