Introducing Out to Lunch 2016 – the visitor attraction survey

Introducing Out to Lunch 2016

This summer we are working with a team of ‘secret diner’ parents to compile a league table ranking the food and drink on offer at the UK’s favourite days out – zoos, theme parks, museums, art galleries, visitor centres, and botanic gardens.

The survey forms part of our Out to Lunch campaign, which is investigating the food on offer to children and families outside of the home. Last year we published a league table ranking the menus on offer in 21 top high street restaurant chains, kick-starting a revolution in children's food on the high street. This year we are turning our attention to popular family days out.

Millions of families grab lunch at the UK’s iconic attractions during the school holidays. Our survey will be asking

  • Do these attractions – zoos, theme parks, museums, botanic gardens – offer children and families the food and drink they deserve?
  • Which popular attractions are taking parents for a ride by failing to meet their demand for freshly prepared, healthy and sustainable food?
  • Which iconic venues are supporting British farmers by buying local? Which are failing to make the grade?

We will be publishing the results later in the year, so stay tuned!

And in the meantime, tell us what you think of children’s food in restaurants and popular attractions – tweet @SoilAssociation using #OutToLunchUK
