Get your Glow on
Ah Winter. As most of you will have noticed, as the seasons change, so does our skin. In winter, our skin becomes dry, you get spots and feel like putting a paper bag over your head, when really you want to sparkle like that sequin skirt you’re donning. So here are my top tips to help you get your glow on this winter.
It’s so important! Picture a plum - then picture a date. When you’re drinking water, your skin plumps out like a plum and when you don’t, that’s when your lines start to show and you start to resemble a date more and more. I know which one I’d rather look like. Don’t you?
When the weather gets colder and your skin needs more hydration, the first thing I do is turn to oils to give my skin the drink it needs. My favourites include Pai’s Bio-regenerate rosehip oil (makes you look slightly like you’ve been tanned when you put it on but roll with it anyway, it’s totally worth it), Skin and Tonic’s Brit Beauty Oil or Spiezia’s rejuvenating rose and vanilla face oil. All three are amazing at keeping your skin looking fresh as a daisy. If your skin is super-duper dry, pop an oil on first and then seal it with an amazing moisturiser like Therapi’s ultra-radiance moisturiser (my favourite moisturiser ever).
3) Body Brush
This might actually be the last thing on your mind before you jump into the shower but trust me, it’s worth doing. It takes the dead skin cells away and leaves your skin super smooth. It also makes you feel warmer as it helps get your circulation going, reduces the appearance of cellulite (slighty, I’ve been doing it for ages and I’ve still got some cellulite, but the appearance definitely has improved since starting) and keeps your skin looking tip top in those winter months. What’s not to love?!
4) Get some sleep
Winter can also be a time for rest and recuperation so take this opportunity to go to bed earlier, lie in and give your body what it really needs. Listen to it, it’s the only one you’ve got and you’re going to have in this lifetime, so treat it well and it will always look after you.
5) Eat Organic
Have you ever thought about what was sprayed onto that carrot baton you’ve just dipped in hummus and popped in your mouth? What about that yummy roast – how was the meat raised? What it was fed and how it was treated before it ended up on your plate? You really are what you eat and your skin is a reflection of this. You deserve the best, so don’t give yourself food and products that give you less - always choose organic.
On a final note, here’s a thought for the winter season to help you get, and keep, your glow; “If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely”. Roald Dahl.
